(Beijing, April 17) The team technical routine competition of the "Good Luck Beijing" Olympic Games Synchronized Swimming Qualification Tournament 2008 concluded this afternoon, with Spain coming out on top with a high score of 48.750 points, followed by Japan and Canada with 48.167 and 47.417 respectively. Having qualified for the Olympic Games, China did not enter for the competition.

According to the draw, Japan took the pool first. As runners-up at the Athens Olympic Games Japan, in spite of its reshuffle after the retirement of some veteran swimmers, was still very strong with such top swimmers as 2007 World Championships duet runners-up Harada Saho and Emiko Suzuki on the team. Performing to the Japanese folk music, the girls showed excellent teamwork whether in and out of water. The five judges awarded them a high technical merit score of 48.167 and an artistic impression score of 48.167, a total of 96.334 points.

Following Japan came out the Spanish team, who chose a dynamic piece entitled "Boogie Wonderland" which was totally different from that by Japan. The quick rhythm highlighted the strength of the Spanish girls and drove the spectators present to beat time to the music. The girls' performance captivated both the spectators and the judges, as all the judges gave them scores over 9.5, sending them to the top place with a total score of 48.750 points.

Canada, Italy, Ukraine and Greece finished third to sixth respectively.

The team free routine competition will be held on April 19.
