Last four Olympic duet tickets awarded

(Beijing, April 20) After the duet free routine second round competition this afternoon, the "Good Luck Beijing" 2008 Olympic Games Synchronized Swimming Qualification Tournamentthe concluded at the National Aquatic Center, with the Great Britain, Belarus, the Czech Republic and Austria splitting the last four duet tickets to the Beijing Olympic Games.

According to the FINA rules, 24 pairs of swimmers from 24 teams will be involved in the Beijing Olympic Games. By April 19, 20 pairs from 20 teams had qualified for the Games. The remaining last four duet tickets will be awarded to the first four pairs from today's second round duet free routine contested among the 15- to 23rd-place finishers from the first round. The eight teams involved in today's second round were the Great Britain, Slovak, Austria, Belarus, Dominica, Venezuela, the Czech Republic and Germany. (Mexico, who had tied with the Great Britain for the 15th place but with a higher free routine score, had qualified for the Olympics after the first round)

In today's second round free routine, the British duo Olivia Allison/Jenna Randall did exceptionally well to rank first with a total score of 86.916 points. Placing second to fourth were Katsiaryne Kulpo/Nastasiya Parfenova from Belarus (85.750), Sona Bernardova/Alzbeta Dufkova from the Czech Republic (84.750) and Nadine Brandl/Elisabeth Mahn of Austria (82.417).

So far, all the 24 tickets to Beijing's Olympic synchronized swimming competition have found their owners. They are: Russia, China, Egypt, Australia, the United States, New Zealand, Spain, Japan, Canada, Italy, Ukraine, Greece, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Brazil, France, Israel, the Democratic Republic of Korea, Kazakhstan, Mexico, the Great Britain, Belarus, the Czech Republic and Austria.

The eight team berths belong to Australia, China, the United States, Egypt, Russia, Spain, Japan and Canada.
